Stay NJ survived, but the rules changed
There was real doubt this spring about whether Stay NJ would make it through budget season intact. The short version: it survived, the maximum benefit is still $6,500, but fewer people qualify than originally planned.
The big change is the income cap. It dropped from $500,000 down to $200,000. If you're a senior homeowner earning more than $200K, you no longer qualify for any Stay NJ benefit.
For everyone else, here's how the new tiers shake out:
| Your income | Max Stay NJ benefit |
|---|---|
| Up to $100,000 | $6,500 |
| $100,000 to $150,000 | $5,000 |
| $150,000 to $200,000 | $4,000 |
| Over $200,000 | Not eligible |
One more note: the $250 senior bonus that ANCHOR homeowners got last year is going away. Senior renters keep it, but senior homeowners will see that value folded into Stay NJ instead.
