It is the middle of August, and South Jersey has plenty happening close to home this weekend. We checked county calendars and current market schedules for Saturday, August 15 and Sunday, August 16.

Here are several options if you want to get out without turning the weekend into a long trip.

Collingswood Crafts and Fine Arts Festival

Haddon Avenue in Collingswood hosts the annual Crafts and Fine Arts Festival on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Camden County says the juried festival features more than 190 artists from the region and beyond.

This is one of the bigger walkable community events on the South Jersey calendar. It is also a good excuse to spend time in downtown Collingswood and visit the local shops and restaurants along the avenue.

Always Whitney in Collingswood

Saturday night, the Scottish Rite Auditorium hosts Always Whitney, a tribute to Whitney Houston. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the show starts at 7:30 p.m., according to Camden County.

Dominican Restoration Day in Camden

Wiggins Park hosts Dominican Restoration Day on Sunday. The county calendar lists a parade from noon to 3 p.m. followed by a concert from 3 to 7 p.m.

Free Saturday night music in Sewell

Gloucester County has a free concert scheduled for Saturday at 7 p.m. at James G. Atkinson Memorial Park in Sewell. Vocalist Greg Farnese is performing songs from the Great American Songbook along with modern favorites. The county lists Sunday at 7 p.m. as the rain date.

Woodbury Farmers Market

The Woodbury Farmers Market is scheduled Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Railroad Avenue. The open-air market mixes local food, prepared items and small vendors in downtown Woodbury.

Haddonfield Farmers Market

Haddonfield Farmers Market is another Saturday morning option. Current hours are 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Kings Highway East. It is a smaller downtown market with farm and food vendors, makers and regular live music.

Haddon Heights Farmers Market

If Sunday works better, Haddon Heights Farmers Market runs from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. around Station Avenue and East Atlantic Avenue. The market combines local produce and goods with music and community programming.

A quick note before you go

Outdoor schedules can change because of weather, and individual vendors can change from week to week. Check the organizer or municipality before making a special trip.

Watchdog takeaway: You do not need to leave South Jersey to find something to do this weekend. Collingswood has the biggest festival on this list, while Camden, Sewell, Woodbury, Haddonfield and Haddon Heights offer smaller community options.
